OAKLAND, Maine — A woman from Oakland was arrested Friday on a manslaughter charge following a yearlong infant death investigation.

Lisa Barney, 54, was arrested Friday morning by detectives with the Maine State Police criminal investigation division and was charged with manslaughter more than a year after a 4-month-old baby died, Lt. Aaron Turcotte said in a news release.

State officials said an "incident" happened in Oakland on Aug. 31, 2023, and the baby died a just over a week later on Sept. 8, 2023. The chief medical examiner's office performed an autopsy that day and ruled the child's death a homicide.

Barney was indicted Thursday by the Kennebec County Grand Jury, charging her with manslaughter. She was arrested the next day and brought to the Kennebec County Jail.

Barney made her first court appearance at 1 p.m. Friday, when her bail was set at $100,000 cash.
