SHERMAN, Maine — Maine State Police arrested a New Hampshire man on suspicion of felony drug trafficking, following a traffic stop in Sherman on Interstate 95 Tuesday.
Police arrested Timothy Pinkham, 34, of Somersworth, New Hampshire, after reportedly finding copious amounts of methamphetamine and fentanyl in his vehicle, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a Tuesday press release.
“MDEA’S Aroostook County Task Force received information about a vehicle traveling from Massachusetts to Aroostook County containing illegal narcotics. Agents were able to determine the vehicle was likely being operated by 34-year-old Timothy Pinkham of Somersworth, New Hampshire, and that his license to drive was suspended,” according to the release.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency was assisted by state police, who located the vehicle on I-95 North. A Maine State Trooper was able to identify Pinkham as the driver of the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop on I-95 North in Sherman. Pinkham reportedly tried to dispose of suspected fentanyl during the traffic stop and was detained, then the vehicle was searched by authorities, the release stated.
During the search, police reportedly found over 1300 grams (2.8 pounds) of methamphetamine and over 3.5 grams of fentanyl. Police said they also found a locked container inside the vehicle and later obtained a warrant for it. Inside the container police reportedly found another 441 grams of methamphetamine. In total authorities seized over 3.8 pounds of methamphetamine—a $150,000 street value, police said.
Pinkham was taken to Aroostook County Jail where he was charged with class A aggravated trafficking with scheduled W drugs, two counts of unlawful furnishing schedule W drugs, two counts of unlawful possession of schedule W drugs, and operating without a license.
Pinkham's cash bail was set at $75,000.
