WINDHAM, Maine — A man from Leeds has been charged with murder in connection with a Windham man who went missing last year.
On May 14, 2023, the family of 34-year-old Alex Jackson of Windham reported him missing after not hearing from him for two days, which was uncharacteristic of his typical behavior, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a news release.
After an investigation spanning 10 months, investigators obtained an arrest warrant for 30-year-old Joseph Chute of Leeds charging him with murder, Moss said. Chute was arrested Friday evening without incident and brought to the Androscoggin County Jail where he is being held without bail.
Chute is reportedly expected to make an initial appearance in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Monday.
To date, Jackson's body has not yet been recovered, Moss said.
