PORTLAND, Maine — A man is in custody after allegedly attacking people at Franklin Towers in Portland Wednesday evening.
Shortly after 9 p.m., police responded to a report of a fight at 211 Cumberland Ave., the Portland Police Department said in a news release.
"It was reported that a man was moving around the building with a machete and assaulting people," the release stated. "Police were able to locate the assailant and take him into custody."
As a result, 38-year-old Ahmed Ismail, who police said is currently unhoused, was arrested and charged with assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, and violating conditions of release, the release said.
Ismail was taken to Cumberland County Jail where he was additionally charged with unlawful possession of schedule W drugs and trafficking in prison contraband, according to police.
