PENOBSCOT, Maine — A man is facing a domestic assault charge after a Penobscot woman was stabbed Friday morning.
Shortly before 5 a.m. Friday, the Hancock County Regional Communications Center (HCRCC) received a call from a distressed Penobscot woman reporting a man was experiencing a medical event, the Hancock County Sheriff's Office said in a release.
About 20 minutes after the HCRCC received the call, it was abruptly disconnected, according to deputies.
"Approximately 8 minutes after the termination of the call, Deputy Justin Burnett arrived at the residence," the release stated. "He discovered that the female complainant had been stabbed. She informed Deputy Burnett that the male suspect, who was the subject of the 911 call, had left the residence on foot, and had fled into a nearby wooded area."
The woman was taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.
Additional personnel from the sheriff's office responded to the scene to help search for the man who fled.
Deputies said the suspect, 33-year-old Michael Bakeman, eventually came out of the woods and was taken into custody without incident.
Bakeman was also taken by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment of injuries not considered life-threatening.
Bakeman has since been charged with Class A domestic violence elevated aggravated assault.
"Following medical clearance, he will be transported to the Hancock County Jail," the release said.
The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit, Maine State Police Tactical Team, Peninsula Ambulance Corps, Bucksport Ambulance, and Penobscot and Castine fire departments assisted.
