AUBURN, Maine — A man accused of stabbing another was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Auburn, police say.
Auburn police responded to the TD Bank at Great Falls Plaza for a reported stabbing that happened shortly after noon Tuesday outside the bank, the Auburn Police Department said in a social media post.
Police said a 23-year-old Lewiston man had reportedly walked into the bank stating he had been stabbed during an "altercation" outside the bank.
Additional officers responded to the scene alongside detectives with the police department to canvas the area.
After a search of the area, police quickly located and detained 34-year-old Walter Hawkins, who is described as a transient, according to the post.
According to police, Hawkins was then arrested and charged with Class B aggravated assault and Class E violation of conditions of release. He was taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where he is being held without bail until he appears before a judge.
The victim was treated on scene before Auburn fire crews took him to Central Maine Medical Center for a stab wound to his abdomen that was not considered life-threatening.
No additional details were released.
