PRESQUE ISLE, Maine — One person has been charged following an alleged bomb threat at the Walmart in Presque Isle on Sunday.
At about 4 p.m. Sunday, the Houlton Regional Communications Center received a 911 call reporting a bomb threat at the store on Main Street, Presque Isle police said in a Facebook post.
The police department contacted the store to inform them about the threat, and the store was immediately evacuated of all customers and employees, according to the post.
"The Maine State Police Bomb Team was contacted to assist with the scene," police said. "Surrounding businesses were also evacuated."
After searching for several hours, Presque Isle police and state troopers did not find an explosive device.
Police said there is no known threat to the public and the Walmart resumed normal business operations Monday morning.
As a result of the investigation, police issued a search and arrest warrant at the residence of 30-year-old Gregory Upshaw, of Presque Isle.
Upshaw was reportedly taken into custody without incident and charged with Class B aggravated reckless conduct, Class C aggravated false public alarm, Class C terrorizing, and Class E creating a police standoff, according to the post.
Upshaw was unable to post his $5,000 cash bail and was taken to the Aroostook County Jail.
"A Weapons Restriction Process has been initiated," police said.
Presque Isle police were assisted by the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Aroostook County Sheriff's Office, Maine Forest Service, Office of State Fire Marshal, and the U.S. Border Patrol.
"To preserve the integrity and capabilities of the investigation moving forward, we're going to decline to provide further details at this time," police said in the Facebook post.
