GARDINER, Maine — A man was charged with murder in a South Gardiner homicide investigation after police found the body of a deceased male outside a home during a welfare check Friday afternoon.

At around 3:40 p.m. on Friday, Gardiner police responded to a Bartlett Street home for a welfare check called in by a family member and found the body of a deceased male outside the residence, according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit Central and Maine State Police Evidence Recovery Team responded to the scene.

An autopsy was conducted by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta and ruled the male's cause of death as blunt force trauma, Moss said. His death was ruled a homicide.

Gregory Fisher, 52, of South Gardiner was arrested and charged with murder, Moss said. Fisher was brought to the Kennebec County Jail and is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday.

The investigation is ongoing.
