CLINTON, Maine — A man is facing domestic violence charges after a woman was allegedly shot in the neck Saturday evening in Clinton.
The Waterville Regional Communications Center received a call around 6 p.m. about a woman who had reportedly been shot at a home at 791 Hill Road. in Clinton, a news release from the Clinton Police Department said.
Clinton police and fire personnel responded to the area where they discovered a woman with an apparent gunshot wound to the neck, according to the release.
Clinton Fire Rescue crews provided medical aid to the woman at the scene, but LifeFlight of Maine was requested because of the extent of her injuries. She was then brought to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center by helicopter for treatment, police said.
"At this time, she is expected to survive the injuries," the release said.
The man who was also at the Hill Road residence, identified as 69-year-old Andrew Fertig, was detained by police without incident.
Police said Fertig was arrested and taken to a local hospital for medical clearance due to his "extremely high blood alcohol content." Officials then brought him to the Kennebec County Jail.
Fertig remains at the jail where he will be held pending his initial court appearance. He is charged with Class A domestic violence elevated aggravated assault.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office and Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit assisted at the scene.
