BIDDEFORD, Maine — A court hearing today focused on a key piece of evidence in the case of Andrew Huber-Young, who is accused of shooting his father, brother, and young niece, Octavia, who died of her wounds in 2022.

Huber-Young's defense team is seeking to exclude a police interview from the trial.

Huber-Young’s attorney, David Bobrow, claimed that during the interview, law enforcement did not disclose that his nearly 2-year-old niece had died from her injuries. Bobrow argued that this omission undermined Huber-Young's ability to fully understand the situation and make an informed decision to waive his Miranda rights.

The court has not yet decided whether the interview will be admissible at trial.

Among those in the courtroom Tuesday was Octavia’s grandmother, Debbie Higgins, who shared her thoughts on the proceedings.

"It’s an outstretch for him—that’s all it is," Higgins said. "We’ll get our justice for Octavia. It’s hard getting up every day not seeing her little face, hearing her laughter."
