Maine Warden Service seeks information on two illegally killed moose

A $3,000 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for either moose, officials say.

MAINE, USA — The Maine Warden Service is asking the public for help with an investigation into two illegally killed moose found in different counties.

According to a news release from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, one moose was found dead in Baileyville approximately 70 yards from Grand Falls Road.

An investigation revealed the moose was allegedly shot from the Grand Falls Road between 8 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. on Friday. The moose was reportedly left to waste after being killed. Officials say they were notified of the dead moose midday on Friday.

Game wardens also received a report Thursday of a dead moose that was shot and left on "County Road 15," a logging road, off Route 11 and about four miles south of Oxbow Road in Aroostook County, officials said in the news release.

It was determined the moose was shot either Wednesday night or early Thursday morning. Officials said the moose was left to waste after being killed.

Both killings are reportedly separate incidents and are not related.

Maine Operation Game Thief is now offering a reward of $3,000 for information on the illegally killed moose, leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for either moose.

"Anyone with any information regarding this wildlife crime is encouraged to contact Operation Game Thief at 1-800-ALERT-US," officials said in the news release. "You can also submit a tip online by using the Maine OGT app “Tip 411” or through the website at www.maineogt.org."
