State police execute search warrants in child sexual abuse investigation

Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit executed two search warrants and one arrest warrant tied to child sexual abuse and possession of sexually explicit material.

PENOBSCOT COUNTY, Maine — The Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit on Tuesday executed an arrest warrant and two search warrants at homes in Penobscot and Hancock counties in connection with child sexual abuse investigations.

Investigators executed arrest and search warrants around 7 a.m. Tuesday at 153 Rooks Road in Eddington and took 42-year-old Norman Dean Fannin into custody, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said in a release.

Fannin was apprehended on an extraditable arrest warrant out of Oregon for class B felony sexual abuse encouraging child sexual abuse, Moss said.

"A search of Fannin’s residence was also conducted relating to an ongoing investigation by the Maine State Police for Disseminating Sexually Explicit Material," the release states.

Fannin is being held at the Penobscot County Jail pending extradition proceedings.

MSP's Computer Crimes Unit also executed a search warrant at 148 Route 1 in Hancock around noon on Tuesday, regarding an ongoing investigation into possession of sexually explicit material, according to the release.

Officials said 47-year-old Peter Dysart was at home during the search warrant and has been cooperative with the investigation, which will be reviewed by the district attorney's office once completed.
