LINCOLN, Maine — Police on Thursday said they are investigating a Maine funeral home owner for theft.

Harold "Chip" Lamson, who owns Lamson Funeral Home, misused funds from funeral trusts established through the business, the Lincoln Police Department said in a statement. The funeral home has locations in Lincoln, Millinocket, and Danforth, according to its website.

Police said they searched the funeral home's Lincoln location on Lee Road and the Millinocket location on Tamarack Street.

"While the investigation is still in its early stage, Lamson is being investigated for Theft by Misapplication of Property," Lincoln police said. "While we have received reports from several victims, we suspect that there may be others affected.

"As this is an active criminal investigation, no further details will be disclosed at this time."

NEWS CENTER Maine left a message for Lamson seeking comment on the allegations and will update this story if he responds. He owns the business with his wife, according to the funeral home's website.

Police said people who have been victimized by Lamson should contact them.
