Car struck by gunfire in Lewiston; police investigating

Police said the incident reportedly happened around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in the area of Pierce Street.

LEWISTON, Maine — Police are investigating after a car was reported to have been struck by gunfire Tuesday night in Lewiston. 

The Lewiston Police Department said on social media that a driver reported his vehicle was struck by gunfire at about 9:30 p.m. on Pierce Street while he was dropping off a friend.

A bullet had reportedly shattered the driver's side rear passenger window and exited the front passenger side window. Police said a shell casing was found in the area of 110 Pierce St. 

Several males pictured in the Lewiston Police Department's social media post were reported to have fled the scene after the shooting incident, according to police. 

The investigation remains ongoing. Those with information regarding the incident are asked to contact Det. Bourgoin at bburgoin@lewistonmaine.gov.
