Lewiston man charged in connection with Westbrook shooting incident

WESTBROOK, Maine — A Lewiston man has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting incident early Wednesday morning in Westbrook.

Around 2:30 a.m., Westbrook police responded to a report of gunshots fired in the 100-block area of Bridge Street, the department said in a release on Facebook.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered several casings on the road, according to the release,

"The investigation determined that an individual had arrived at a residence and had fired a gun in the air as part of a dispute," the release said.

While conducting an initial investigation, police identified the suspect as 19-year-old Malik Romain, of Lewiston, the release stated.

The identification of the suspect was shared with other law enforcement agencies, and then Lewiston police located and detained Romain, the Facebook post said.

Detectives with the Westbrook Police Department traveled to Lewiston and interviewed Romain, as well as other involved parties, police said.

Romain was charged with reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, according to police.
