Police respond to possible hostage situation in Lebanon

York County sheriff's deputies responded to Milton Mills Road for a report that several males, one of whom allegedly had a firearm, had assaulted someone.

LEBANON, Maine — Law enforcement officials responded to a possible hostage situation in Lebanon overnight.

York County sheriff's deputies responded to Milton Mills Road around midnight Wednesday for a report that several males, one of whom allegedly had a firearm, had assaulted someone at a home on Milton Mills Road, York County Sheriff William King said in a press release.

King said an "anonymous caller continued and described a chaotic scene in which an individual was beaten and was being held as a hostage. Additional anonymous callers also reported a disturbance had occurred."

Sheriff’s deputies made a tactical approach to the residence and contacted the lawful occupants, according to the release. Deputies began an investigation but found all occupants uncooperative, the release stated

"Evidence was collected and the inquiry will continue," King said.

Dozens of officers were at the scene for multiple hours Wednesday morning before clearing the scene at two areas of Milton Mills Road.

Police and EMS crews also responded to the scene Wednesday.

Road closures that were enacted during the police response have since been reopened.
