LINCOLN, Maine — A funeral home owner in Penobscot County faces numerous allegations that he misused funds from funeral trusts set up through the establishment.
Harold "Chip" Lamson, 53, was arrested Sunday on two outstanding warrants for felony theft amid an ongoing joint investigation by the Lincoln and East Millinocket police departments.
Lamson is the owner of Lamson Funeral Home, which has several locations of business in northern Penobscot County listed on its website and appears to offer a variety of funeral and memorial services.
A search warrant was executed on May 9 at two of the funeral homes at the Lincoln and Millinocket locations, but Lamson was not arrested at that time.
A news release was issued by the Lincoln Police Department the day after the searches, urging people who believe they may have been victimized to contact officials.
Since then, police with both departments said they have received more than 50 additional complaints against Lamson, Lincoln police Chief Mark Leonard said Monday in a news release.
Police continue to ask that anyone who may have been affected by Lamson's business dealings to contact Detective Stewart Jacobs at the Lincoln Police Department by emailing stewart.jacobs@lincolnmaine.org or by calling the East Millinocket Police Department at 207-746-3555.
Lamson posted bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 8.
Police said the case is an active and ongoing investigation.
