ROCKLAND, Maine — A juvenile faces charges after allegedly stealing alcohol from a Rockland store and later threatening police and their guardian with a kitchen knife.
Around 10 a.m. Wednesday, police responded to a store for reported alcohol theft by a minor, according to a news release from the Rockland Police Department. The juvenile had fled but was quickly located by police who also recovered the alcohol, police said.
The minor was reportedly brought home to a neighboring jurisdiction where they were summonsed and released. There, police said the juvenile made threats toward an officer and their guardian and at one point was "brandishing" a kitchen knife.
"While the officer was outside the home speaking to the guardian, the juvenile exited the home, brandishing a kitchen knife," the release stated. "The officer was able to verbally de-escalate the situation, during which time the juvenile went back in the home and exited again without the knife. The juvenile began yelling at the officer to 'shoot' them."
The minor was detained and brought to Long Creek Youth Development Center on charges of criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon.
