Man imprisoned at Mount View Correctional Facility dies at 56

The Holden man was serving a seven-year sentence for assault, drug trafficking, and illegal possession of a firearm with a possible release date in December 2028.

CHARLESTON, Maine — The Maine Department of Corrections announced Monday the death of an incarcerated individual. 

Craig Pelkey, 56, of Holden, who was serving a seven-year sentence at the Mount View Correctional Facility, died at 11:20 a.m. Monday, the department said in a news release.

The department said Pelkey's death was attended by medical personnel but did not give details as to how he died.

In 2024, Pelkey began serving seven years of concurrent sentences for aggravated assault,
aggravated trafficking of scheduled drugs, illegal possession of a firearm, and aggravated assault. His earliest possible release date was December 2028, according to the release.

Consistent with policy, the department said the attorney general's office and state medical examiner were notified of the death.
