Hermon man facing charges related to Bangor shooting incident

Bangor police arrested 37-year-old Todd Whitman after he allegedly shot a person Wednesday night on Franklin Street.

BANGOR, Maine — A Hermon man is facing several charges related to a shooting Wednesday night in Bangor.

The Bangor Police Department arrested 37-year-old Todd Whitman after he allegedly shot a person on Franklin Street.

Police responded to a report that a person had been shot and that the suspect had left the scene shortly after 9 p.m. Wednesday on Franklin Street, the police department said in a news release.

"The suspect, who was known to the victim, was identified as Whitman and police began to scour the area, in search of the vehicle he was believed to be operating," the release stated.

According to police, the vehicle was located but refused to stop, prompting a short-vehicle pursuit to ensure until discontinued by officers. Later on, the vehicle was discovered parked and abandoned in Hermon.

"Working on information gathered during the course of the investigation, Whitman was tracked to a residence in Hermon," the release said. "Before a warrant on the residence could be executed, Whitman was spotted getting into a vehicle and leaving the home."

Police said they followed the vehicle, locating it in Bangor, where they discovered Whitman was nearby on foot. After then searching the area, Whitman was found on Davis Road in Bangor and taken into custody.

He was taken to the Penobscot County Jail where he remains held on the following charges:

  • Class A elevated aggravated assault
  • Class B theft 
  • Class C eluding
  • Class D refusing to submit
  • Class D reckless conduct
  • Class E driving to endanger
  • Class D burglary of a motor vehicle

"The victim of the shooting was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover," the release stated.

The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office and Maine Drug Enforcement Agency assisted with this case.
