HARRISON, Maine — One teen was injured after a man allegedly shot at a group of teenagers who were playing "ding-dong-ditch" early Saturday morning in Harrison.
Shortly after 1 a.m., law enforcement responded to reports of several gunshots and screaming heard in the area of Waterford Road and Depot Street, the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) said in a news release.
At the scene, deputies discovered blood in the roadway. During that same time, the Cumberland County Regional Communications Center received a report from Bridgton Hospital about a walk-in gunshot victim, according to the release.
An investigation revealed a group of teenagers had been playing "ding-dong-ditch," which means they ring people's doorbells and run away. The teens reportedly approached the residence on Waterford Road, knocked on the door, and ran away.
"The resident ... later identified as 30-year-old Vincent Martin of Harrison, produced a handgun and shot at the teens numerous times, striking one victim in the right calf," the release stated.
The injuries were considered serious but not life-threatening, officials also said.
Deputies said Martin was located and arrested at his home. He was taken to the Cumberland County Jail and charged with the following:
- Elevated aggravated assault, a Class A felony
- Aggravated reckless conduct, a Class B felony
- Discharging a firearm near a dwelling, a Class E misdemeanor
- Discharging a firearm over a way, a Class E misdemeanor
Martin's cash bail was set at $10,000, according to the release. In an update Thursday, the sheriff's office said Martin has been released on bail conditions, which include no possession or use of dangerous weapons or firearms.
Deputies had said the victim, whose identity is not being released at this time, was in "stable condition" at Bridgton Hospital. In Thursday's update, the sheriff's office said the victim was treated and released from the hospital the morning after the incident.
As a result of the ongoing investigation, the victim was issued a cease harassment notice and trespass warning as it relates to the suspect and his residence, according to the sheriff's office.
As a result of the incident, Waterford Road and Depot Street were closed for several hours.
The CCSO Criminal Investigations Division, CCSO Drone Team, Bridgton Police Department, Oxford County Sheriff’s Office, Harrison Fire Department, and Waterford Fire Department assisted.
The investigation remains ongoing.
