GORHAM, Maine — A resident of the Gorham House assisted living facility was taken to the hospital after a fire.

Gorham Fire Chief Kenneth Fickett says they suffered burns to their chest and face.

The fire started after a lamp fell on to a bed in a second floor room. The rest of the floor was evacuated because of the resulting smoke.

The evacuation was difficult because the patients in the wing where the fire occurred have dementia, according to Chief Fickett.

State agencies will investigate the fire because it took place in a medical facility.

Dispatch told NEWS CENTER Maine that the fire happened around 10:30-10:45 p.m. Friday night.
