Fort Fairfield man charged with manslaughter in connection with infant son's death in 2022

The 24-year-old was arrested for manslaughter in November.

FORT FAIRFIELD, Maine — A man from Fort Fairfield was arrested last month in connection with the 2022 death of his infant son.

Stanley Hazell, 24, was arrested Nov. 13 in Caribou on a manslaughter charge. He is accused of killing his 7-month-old son, Jackson Hazell, on April 8 of last year, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss told NEWS CENTER Maine on Monday.

Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit responded to the death in Fort Fairfield, and an autopsy by the Maine chief medical examiner's office determined Jackson's death to be a homicide, Moss said.

Stanley Hazell was arraigned Nov. 15 and is being held at the Aroostook County Jail on $50,000 cash bail or $100,000 surety bail.

The case is being prosecuted by the Maine attorney general's office with representation by Assistant Attorney General Leane Zainea, and Hazell is being represented by Attorney Steve Smith, according to documents shared by the Maine attorney general's office on Dec. 1.
