WINSLOW, Maine — A Winslow firefighter was arrested this past week in connection with thousands of dollars stolen from the Winslow Firefighters Association.
On Dec. 28, the Winslow Police Department contacted the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office to begin a theft investigation involving a Winslow firefighter.
Members of the Winslow Firefighters Association (WFA) conducted a recent investigation that revealed several thousand dollars were missing from various accounts and CDs" that belong to the association, a news release from the sheriff's office said Monday.
On Jan. 2, 34-year-old Shawn Stetson of Fairfield was interviewed and then arrested for allegedly stealing more than $12,000 from the WFA, according to the release.
Stetson is a Winslow firefighter and member of the WFA. Having access to the accounts, he reportedly made cash withdrawals beginning in February 2023, deputies said.
"Stetson’s bail was set at $500.00 cash, with conditions not to have direct or indirect contact with any Winslow employees and not to return to the Town of Winslow property except for one time to retrieve personal property," the release stated.
