CLINTON, Maine — Crews responded to reports of a fire at an apartment building in Clinton Wednesday night.

Around 9:30 p.m. the Clinton Fire and Police Departments responded to the fire at a multi-unit apartment building at 12 Roderick Rd., according to a news release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss.

Crews contained the fire and all residents were able to vacate the building safely and then reenter once the fire was extinguished, according to the release.

Moss said the fire marshal's office was called to investigate and determined the fire originated in and on a kitchen stove inside the apartment building and was intentionally set.

Investigators determined the fire was started by a resident of the apartment, 30-year-old Jamie Perry. Perry was arrested on an arson charge and taken to Kennebec County Jail, according to the release.

No injuries were reported and the apartment complex had working smoke detectors at the time of the incident, the release stated.

The Kennebec County Sheriff's Office assisted on the scene.
