Ex-Augusta man gets 10 years for causing fatal crash while on drugs

Patrick Shorey was under the influence of methamphetamine and THC at the time of the June 2017 crash, police said.

WISCASSET, Maine — A Maine man has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for causing a fatal crash while under the influence of methamphetamine and THC, the active ingredient of cannabis.

The Kennebec Journal reports that 26-year-old Patrick Shorey, who has lived in both Augusta and Waterville, was sentenced May 28 for vehicular manslaughter and other charges.

Shorey struck a station wagon driven by 75-year-old Carolyn Blouin of Rockville, Connecticut, while driving south on Route 27 in Dresden in June 2017. Blouin died at the scene. Her 81-year-old husband, Charles, suffered several broken bones, including a leg and a hip.

Shorey didn't have a driver's license at the time.

Shorey expressed remorse in a written court statement and described his unstable upbringing with a mother who was addicted to drugs.
