PORTLAND, Maine — Portland officials say the combined efforts of the Portland Police Department, its crime reduction unit (CRU), and the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) resulted in a "significant drug trafficking arrest" on Tuesday.
Police arrested 35-year-old Nichole Staples of Portland at about 1:45 p.m., the Portland Police Department said in a news release. Staples' arrest was the direct result of an ongoing drug trafficking investigation.
According to the release, Staples was charged with unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs, violating conditions of release, and reportedly had nine warrants out for her arrest.
Police said Staples also had 88.4 grams of fentanyl—which can be considered lethal at two milligrams—and $2,164 in cash in her possession.
She was taken to the Cumberland County Jail.
