Dexter police monitoring report of armed man near Dunkin'

Police said they planned to check surveillance video at stores on Tuesday to gain potential leads.

DEXTER, Maine — Dexter police say they are monitoring a report they received Monday night of a man with a handgun near the Dunkin' store on Church Street.

The call came in around 5 p.m., and Dexter police and the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office immediately flooded the area, Dexter Police Chief Kevin Wintle wrote in a social media post. However, they found nothing.

"After checking all the stores, banks and interviewing numerous people, we have exhausted all our leads," Wintle wrote. "If we have any further developments we will get the info out immediately."

Wintle said police would maintain a large presence throughout town and throughout Monday night, and they planned to check surveillance video at stores on Tuesday to gain potential leads.

Dexter police ask that anyone who may have information call them at 207-924-7622.
