GRAY, Maine — A 50-year-old man from Cumberland was killed and two minors were injured in a two-vehicle crash that happened late Saturday night in Gray.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office said in a news release sheriff's deputies and Gray Fire/EMS responded to multiple reports of a head-on crash in the area of Portland Road and Sugar Maple Road in Gray just before 11:30 p.m.
An investigation revealed a 2022 Jeep Gladiator driven by 43-year-old Jean Nshimiyimana crashed into a 2019 Chevrolet Suburban driven by 50-year-old Daniel Fackrell of Cumberland that was heading in the opposite direction, the sheriff's office said.
Fackrell reportedly suffered life-threatening injuries and died at the scene. Two juvenile passengers in Fackrell's vehicle suffered injuries not considered life-threatening and were brought to Maine Medical Center, according to the release. The sheriff's office said no further information concerning the minors will be released at this time.
Nshimiyimana was arrested on charges of manslaughter and operating under the influence, with additional charges expected, according to the sheriff's office.
Portland Road was closed for several hours while police reconstructed the crash.
The Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division continues to investigate the cause of the crash. Speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash, the sheriff's office said.
