Crash involving horse-drawn carriage in Exeter leads to arrest

A 31-year-old Thomaston man was arrested for allegedly violating bail conditions, deputies said. The man was reportedly out on 10 different sets of bail.

CORINTH, Maine — A man from Thomaston was arrested Thursday afternoon after a crash involving the motor vehicle he was driving and a horse-drawn carriage in Exeter.

Deputies responded to the area of Avenue Road after a crash was reported just after 3 p.m., according to a news release from the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office.

An initial investigation revealed a Jeep driven by 31-year-old Shane Milliard of Thomaston was traveling on Avenue Road when the vehicle struck the back of a horse-drawn carriage. The carriage was occupied by two minors and both refused medical treatment, deputies said. Milliard was reportedly not injured in the crash.

Deputies said the horse ran away after being spooked, but was found.

During the crash investigation, Milliard was found to be out on 10 different sets of bail. He was arrested and brought to the Penobscot County Jail after it was determined "his actions during this crash violated active conditions of his bail," deputies said in the news release.

The crash remains under investigation.
