Chelsea man charged with theft after snowmobiles, parts of motorcycle reported stolen found on property

Among other items, deputies discovered two snowmobiles confirmed as the same vehicles reportedly stolen from a Randolph residence last fall.

CHELSEA, Maine — A Chelsea man faces multiple charges after parts of a motorcycle and two snowmobiles reported stolen were discovered on his property this week.

On Feb. 4, a Kennebec County Sheriff's Office deputy took a complaint of a stolen 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle valued at $5,000 that was reported being at a residence in Chelsea, according to a news release from the sheriff's office.

A search warrant for 30-year-old Richard Dumond's Windsor Road residence was granted on Friday, leading to the discovery of motorcycle parts and the registration plate at the residence, the sheriff's office said.

"The serial numbers were removed using a grinding tool, which is not allowed by law," the release stated.

Investigators also found several firearms, ammunition, drug paraphernalia, and illegal narcotics while at the residence and with the assistance of a second search warrant.

Additionally, deputies discovered outside of a barn two snowmobiles confirmed as the same vehicles reportedly stolen from a Randolph residence last fall.

At the time of his arrest, "Dumond was on active bail conditions and had been served a protection order prohibiting the possession of firearms, bows and crossbows."

He now faces charges of theft by receiving stolen property, violation of protective order, criminal simulation, unlawful furnishing of methamphetamine, and aggravated criminal mischief, illegal possession of firearm.

Dumond is not allowed bail before his first court appearance, the sheriff's office said.
