Biddeford teen accused of shooting brother's fiancé pleads not guilty

If found guilty, she could face up to 30 years in prison.

BIDDEFORD, Maine — Ariana Tito, the woman accused of shooting her brother's fiancé, Kayla Grant, appeared in York County Superior Court Tuesday for her arraignment on four related charges.

Tito, 18, pleaded not guilty to all four charges in connection with the shooting that left her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Kayla Grant, in critical condition.

The charges include attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and two counts of tampering with a witness.

The incident occurred in November, at the home shared by Kayla Grant and Tito's brother, Lorenze Labonte.

Labonte had been arrested at the same address in Saco just a day before, accused of the murder of Ahmed Sharif, reported to be Tito's boyfriend.

Tito was arrested in New York a week after the shootings and held at Rikers Island before being extradited to Maine to face charges.

During the court hearing, Tito's mother attended via Zoom.

Labonte is currently held in jail awaiting trial for charges of witness tampering and murder.

Despite the gravity of the case, bail was not addressed during the recent hearing, and Tito remains in custody.

If found guilty of the charges against her, she could face up to 30 years in prison.
