CHARLESTON, Maine — A Biddeford landlord who was convicted of killing two teenagers in 2012 has died in prison.
The Maine Department of Corrections announced in a release that 86-year-old James Pak died at the Mountain View Correctional Facility shortly before 5 a.m. Saturday.
Pak began serving a life sentence in 2016 for two counts of murder and one count of aggravated attempted murder.
In 2017, the mothers of the two teens who were killed filed a civil complaint against the city of Biddeford, its police chief, and an officer. They claimed Biddeford police Officer Edward Dexter pushed Pak to kill 19-year-old Derrick Thompson and 18-year-old Alivia Welch, who were renting from Pak at the time, the Portland Press Herald reported.
The 2017 case was originally dismissed, but the two mothers appealed in 2020. In February of this year, a federal appeals court upheld the dismissal.
Pak's death was attended by medical personnel, according to MDOC.
MDOC said adhering to policy, the state attorney general's officer and state medical examiner's office were notified of the death.
