READFIELD, Maine — A Belgrade man is facing charges after a police standoff Tuesday in Readfield.
The Augusta Regional Communications Center received a domestic violence complaint shortly after 6 p.m. from a 70-year-old woman in Readfield. The woman told dispatchers her ex-husband, 71-year-old Carl Hiebert of Belgrade, had a firearm and assaulted her at her home on Morrill Road, Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss said Thursday in a news release.
Law enforcement responded to the scene and found the woman in the driveway. She was safely removed from the area and treated by Winthrop Rescue, Moss said.
The woman's 41-year-old son who also resides at the residence was able to get out of the house and was unharmed, according to the release.
Moss said a perimeter was set up around the home with the help from the Kennebec County Sheriff's Office.
The Maine State Police Tactical Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were able to take Heibert into custody. He has been charged with domestic violence criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a firearm, and domestic violence assault.
Hiebert was transported to the Kennebec Couty Correctional Facility.
