Bangor woman pleads guilty to stealing money from tribal organization

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor woman pleaded guilty in a Bangor courtroom Thursday to stealing money from a tribal organization that is her employer.

Court records show Angelia Holt, 54, stole over $28,000 from her employer between June 2017 and April 2021 using a credit card that was issued to another employee for "unauthorized personal expenses and then altering the invoices to conceal the theft," the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine said in a news release.

Holt was reportedly employed as an accounting clerk for the tribal organization, according to the release.

She now faces up to a five-year prison sentence with a fine of up to $250,000, the release stated. Holt will receive her sentencing once the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigative report.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
