BANGOR, Maine — Bangor police said they charged two men with domestic violence after one attacked a woman at a motel and another attacked a woman on Union Street over the weekend.

Around 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 16, officers arrived at the motel after receiving a call about an assault in one of the rooms, according to a press release from the Bangor Police Department.

Police arrested Rodrick Martin, 44, of Mineola, Texas, on Monday morning in Ellsworth and charged him with domestic violence aggravated assault and domestic violence assault, both felonies. Police said he also had a domestic violence warrant out of Texas.

Around 2:00 p.m. the same day, officers went to the 1100 block of Union Street based on reports of a man assaulting a woman, police said. Officers located the couple and the man tried to flee after an officer attempted to detain him, the release stated.

Richard Lee, 24, of Bangor, was subdued with assistance from a second officer and was handcuffed, police said, adding when they attempted to place him into the back of a cruiser, he attempted to flee again but was subdued again. He was charged with misdemeanor-level domestic violence assault and failure to submit to arrest or detention. He also had four warrants for failing to appear in court for previous criminal charges, police said.

Both men were taken to the Penobscot County Jail.
