BANGOR, Maine — The Bangor Police Department is investigating a stabbing that happened early Wednesday morning on Westland Street. Police confirm to NEWS CENTER Maine it was a domestic violence incident and a suspect has been arrested.
According to a press release issued around noon on Wednesday, police say police and the Bangor Fire Department responded to a home on Westland Street for a domestic disturbance, where an adult woman was reported to have been stabbed.
Responding officers found the victim, who sustained "very serious" injuries, police say. She was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
The suspect, 40-year-old Joshua McAuliffe of Bangor, was taken into custody and charged with attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Detectives from the Bangor PD Criminal Investigations Division are investigating the incident.
