Bangor man accused of threatening to stab someone to death

Bangor police responded after a man called Saturday afternoon saying a person armed with a knife threatened to stab him to death.

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man faces charges after police say he allegedly threatened to kill another person by stabbing them with a knife.

Police responded around 2:45 p.m. Saturday after dispatchers received a call from someone who said a man armed with a knife had threatened to kill him, Bangor police Sgt. Jason McAmbley said Monday in a news release.

The alleged victim said the encounter took place in the area of Harlow and Franklin streets, but he fled the area after the suspect apparently threatened him.

Police were able to get a description of the suspect to distribute and located him several minutes later near Cross Street and Main Street.

That man, identified as 40-year-old Steven Roux, was taken to Penobscot County Jail and has been charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, which is a felony, and assault.

The knife that matched the description shared by the caller was found and seized by police.

McAmbley said the person who Roux allegedly threatened was not injured in the incident, and he also said the two did not have any known connections before Saturday.
