Bangor man accused of shoplifting from Walmart and evading police

BANGOR, Maine — A Bangor man was arrested on multiple charges after allegedly shoplifting from a local Walmart and fleeing police Monday morning. 

The Bangor Police Department said in a news release 48-year-old Lawrence Cyr of Bangor was taken into custody after being accused of shoplifting at the Stillwater Avenue Walmart around 9:30 a.m. 

Cyr reportedly fled when he was confronted by loss prevention, and after several sightings, was found and arrested near the Oriental Jade restaurant at approximately 11:15 a.m. 

Police said Cyr was treated for cuts and scratches he received while fleeing through the woods, then was booked into the Penobscot County Jail. 

Cyr now faces charges of theft by unauthorized taking (Class E), violation of conditions of release (Class E), and probation violation. He was also wanted on an outstanding felony warrant for probation violations for former convictions. 

Maine State Police, a state police K9 unit, and the Maine Warden Service assisted with the incident.
