Brief police standoff ends in arrest of Bangor man

Police arrested 33-year-old Daniel Ireland on Saturday after he reportedly threatened to burn down his apartment building on Lincoln Street.

BANGOR, Maine — Police arrested a man in Bangor after he allegedly threatened tenants in his building Saturday evening.

Bangor police responded to the scene on Lincoln Street in Bangor around 6 p.m. after two tenants in the building called to report Daniel Ireland, 33, was "intoxicated, telling people to get out of the building, and threatening to burn the building down," according to a Monday release from the Bangor Police Department.

Because of an apparent incident earlier in the day, during which Ireland was reportedly found carrying a loaded handgun, officers evacuated all occupants of the building and attempted to call Ireland out. This was after Ireland told officers to come upstairs so he could "show them something," according to the release.

Ireland came out from the building about 20 minutes later, and officers attempted to place him under arrest. After a brief struggle with officers, Ireland was taken into custody and brought to jail, the release stated.

Ireland was charged with terrorizing, criminal threatening, and disorderly conduct.
