Maine man charged after 9-month-old baby girl treated for drug overdose

Law enforcement officials responded Monday to a home in Mexico, Maine, where the child was unresponsive and turning blue, according to the sheriff's office.

MEXICO, Maine — A man from Dixfield is facing charges after officials say a 9-month-old baby was taken to Maine Medical Center on Monday for a drug overdose.

The Oxford County Sheriff's Office and Rumford Police Department were called to a home on Roxbury Road in Mexico, Maine, on Monday for a 9-month-old baby girl who was unresponsive and turning blue, the sheriff's office said Tuesday in a press release.

The baby was taken to Rumford Hospital, where she was treated with numerous doses of Narcan for a drug overdose, the release stated. Toxicology reports confirmed the baby girl tested positive for cocaine and marijuana and was suffering from an opioid overdose, the sheriff's office said. She was later transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Timothy Child, 28, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, unlawful trafficking schedule W drugs, and violating conditions of release, according to officials. He was also on three sets of bail conditions when he was arrested, the release stated.

An investigation resulted in officials seizing approximately 60 grams of cocaine from the home on Roxbury Road, the sheriff's office said. A second warrant was executed on a home on Pine Street in Dixfield, where officials seized several pieces of evidence, according to the release.

The sheriff's office said the case is still under investigation.
