SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — A second suspect has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery and home invasion investigation in South Portland.
John Nguyen, 29, of Portland was arrested by Westbrook police Friday night and has been charged with robbery, burglary, theft, and six counts of reckless conduct with a firearm, South Portland police said Saturday in a news release.
Nguyen and 41-year-old Tyrone Brown of Old Orchard Beach, who was arrested Nov. 28, are accused of conducting an armed robbery at a home on Sawyer Street on Nov. 22 and demanding money from a person who was living there, according to the release.
Police responded to the location at about 8:30 p.m. after receiving a report about a home invasion and shots fired, but both suspects fled on foot when the resident escaped unharmed to call for help, the release stated.
"Initial and follow-up information officers obtained strongly suggests that the address of the incident was not chosen at random," police said.
Brown was arrested Tuesday morning through a joint effort by Old Orchard Beach police, South Portland police, and the Souther Maine Regional Special Response Team during the execution of a "high-risk" search warrant at a home on Evergreen Avenue. He was charged with robbery, burglary, aggravated reckless conduct, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, police said at the time of his arrest.
Nguyen and Brown are being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
Brown is being held on $25,000 cash bail. NEWS CENTER Maine has reached out to South Portland police regarding bail and scheduling information for his first court appearance but has not yet heard back.
