FREEDOM, Maine — Another massive marijuana growing operation was broken up in rural Maine, authorities announced Monday.
The Waldo County Sheriff's Office said officers seized more than 1,900 plants from a residence at 555 Belfast Road in Freedom.
The sheriff's office said it worked with the Department of Homeland Security, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Maine Office of Cannabis Policy, and Freedom municipal officials in investigating the operation.
"The investigation is ongoing and any charges as a result of this investigation will be reported at a later time," the sheriff's office said in a statement.
It was the latest in a series of large-scale marijuana busts in rural Maine. Authorities said the illegal growing operations are tied to Chinese criminal networks.
