BANGOR, Maine — An Albion man pleaded guilty in a Bangor courtroom Tuesday to knowingly making false statements while purchasing firearms to a Federal Firearms Licensee.

Court records show 42-year-old Jason Palmer purchased five pistols in five separate transactions from an FFL in Fairfield between June and August 2022, the U.S. Attorney's Office, District of Maine said in a news release.

"In each of those transactions, Palmer completed the required Form 4473 and misrepresented that he was the actual buyer of the firearm when he was in fact purchasing it for another individual," the release stated. "He also falsely indicated on the form that he was not an unlawful user of any controlled substances."

However, in an interview with law enforcement, Palmer admitted he was offered heroin and/or fentanyl in exchange for buying the firearms, according to the release.

He now faces up to a five-year prison sentence with a fine of up to $250,000 and up to three years of supervised release. Palmer will receive his sentence once the U.S. Probation Office completes a presentence investigation report.

This case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Waterville Police Department.
