Kids celebrate Father's Day at the Bangor Mall with donuts and their dads

Messology Maine held its first Father's Day event, 'Donuts with Dad'.

BANGOR, Maine — There's nothing like having a donut with your dad to celebrate Father's Day.

Messology Maine held its first Father's Day event Sunday, 'Donuts with Dad.'

"We bought some donuts and frosting and sprinkles and let the kids have at it and now we're letting them run out their energy," Messology Maine's owner and founder, Erika Martin-Booker, said.

Messology Maine is a sensory play area located in the Bangor Mall.

Martin-Booker said having a place where families can make memories together on holidays like Father's Day means the world to her.

"It really means a lot to me. Of course, my dad he's amazing. I love him right to pieces. The fact that kids get to come to a place to make memories with their dads is huge to me," Martin-Booker said.

Martin-Booker said her son has sensory processing disorder which inspired her to create a safe space for small kids to have access to this type of environment.

"He needed all of this and there really wasn't a place for him to go get it anywhere around except for occupational therapy," she said. "We also needed a place that was safe for small children because there's a lot of parents who have small children around the area and some of the other businesses that are around the area don't really cater to this specific group of families."

Messology Maine has been located at the Bangor Mall for over a year. Martin-Booker originally opened the establishment in Brewer. She said she's eventually hoping to have a space with an outdoor area in the future.
