According to History.com, "St. Valentine’s Day is named for a Christian martyr and dates back to the 5th century, but has origins in the Roman holiday Lupercalia."
This year, Mainers are remembering the legacy of the Valentine's Day Bandit, who passed away last April.
For more than 40 years, Kevin Fahrman, whose identity was kept a secret up until his death, placed hundreds of hearts around the Portland area each Valentine's Day.
Fahrman's family created a foundation in his name called Be a Kevin, which allows Mainers to download a PDF of the heart Kevin used for years—to spread the love and his legacy.
