MAINE, USA — Halloween is finally upon us, the ultimate candy-filled holiday.
Kids and adults alike can enjoy several events hosted across the state, including trunk-or-treating, dance parties, and parades. However, since it is the spookiest night of the year, local municipalities have offered some safety tips to keep you and your loved ones safe.
Safety tips
- Drivers slow down, watch for children, and remember some people may be hard to see.
- Always walk in groups, never trick-or-treat alone, and have everyone carry flashlights.
- Make sure children use sidewalks and crosswalks.
- Only trick-or-treat in familiar areas and go to houses with porch lights that are on.
- Parents, put a name tag with your child's contact info on their costume, in case they get lost.
- Parents, inspect the candy your child collects for any open packages or expired items.
- To keep your home safe, never leave lit candles unattended inside pumpkins, consider flameless candles.
Perfect weather
Mainers can expect a mild evening, so no need to wear that winter coat under your costume that inevitably makes you look like a marshmallow — unless, of course, you are going as the marshmallow man from "Ghostbusters," then by all means, carry on.
NEWS CENTER Maine meteorologist Keith Carson broke down the Halloween forecast for us.
"Tonight will be unusually warm for trick-or-treating with temperatures in the mid to upper 60s between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. Even for the kids staying out late, it shouldn't dip below 60 F.
So go have fun, remember to be aware of your surroundings, and stay safe. Happy Halloween!
