Downtown Bangor Partnership to host Earth Day activities in spirit of spring cleaning

You can get involved in a handful of activities this weekend to celebrate Earth Day and help with your cleaning plans.

BANGOR, Maine — Spring has finally sprung. It's time to air out the dust and clean out what has accumulated over the winter.

This weekend in downtown Bangor, the Downtown Bangor Partnership is hosting a handful of activities to help you get your cleaning done in a fun way as well as celebrate for Earth Day.

From 9 a.m. to noon, events will be scattered across downtown. You can check out an arts and crafts swap at the Bangor Public Library. A rock painting and a planting station will also be set up in downtown.

If you're planning to get rid of any used furniture, building materials, or appliances you don't need anymore, Habitat for Humanity will be taking donations.

If you're into gardening, folks are also encouraged to pick up, rake, and join in to clean Main Street and greenspaces around Bangor of any trash, leaves, weeds, or debris.

Main Street will be cleaned with the help of volunteers and employees of the Hollywood Casino. The clean-up is in preparation for this May's Adopt-A-Garden event.

"We're super excited, I think this is probably our first big spring cleanup in a couple of years, so we're really excited about that," Betsy Lundy of the Downtown Bangor Partnership said. "We'll have some rakes, trash pickers, contractor bags, and gloves available, but we encourage people, if you have your own rake [and] if you have your own trash picker and gloves, to bring it because it will just allow even more people to participate."
