Down East magazine presents its annual 'Best of Maine' roundup

The issue shines a light on favorites in food, retail, hospitality, and more.

PORTLAND, Maine — The September issue of Down East is, in the friendliest possible way, the stuff that arguments are made of. That’s because its annual "Best of Maine" feature is all about your opinion and mine and those of people all across the state and beyond.

Consider, for instance, lobster shacks. Of the dozens of them in Maine, which is best? Of the 150 or so breweries, which is best? How about best florist? Apple orchard? Architect?

The readers of Down East cast their votes and came up with a winner along with four finalists in all of these categories and many others.

Although it’s fun to agree or disagree with the choices, the most valuable part of the issue is likely the new ideas it’ll give you.

Watch our conversation with Editor in Chief Will Grunewald, then check out the full Best of Maine list. When you’re done, you’ll be ready for a road trip.
