'Tats-4-Tails' flash tattoo event in Portland on Saturday benefits Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland

The event is happening at the Dark Harbor Tattoo Society in Portland on Saturday, Oct. 21, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

PORTLAND, Maine — "Tats-4-Tails" is an event put on by the Dark Harbor Tattoo Society, located at 39 Exchange Street in Portland. The fundraising event from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21, benefits the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

All of the designs that artists came up with will range from $60-$100, and it's cash only.

Here are some other event rules people should be aware of:

  • You must be at least 18 years old with valid ID.
  • Check-in for the event will begin at 10:30 a.m., and artists will begin tattooing at 11 a.m.
  • Tattoos can only be done on arms, legs or upper back (no exceptions to this rule)
  • Design sheets have already been released on the event Facebook page, and there will be no alterations to the preset designs.

Jessie Marzza, one of the owners, said the designs are simple, fun, and there's a wide variety to choose from, mostly within the theme of cats and dogs.

Marzza also said 100% of proceeds from the event will be going straight to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, with artists donating their time, so tipping your artist is always welcomed and appreciated.

"Me and my wife have always loved animals. I think if I wasn't tattooing I'd probably be doing something with rescuing dogs, or animals in general, so it's a good way for us as a business to give back to the community, and its something that our hearts are into a lot," Steve Marzza, Jessie's husband, told NEWS CENTER Maine.

"We just ask, when people come in on Saturday, to be patient," Jessie added. "We've done it in the past and it went really smooth. Everyone was awesome. Just those that are coming in to get tattooed, just be patient. And if there is a little bit of a wait, we are going to try to get to everyone that we can that day."

If you don't want to get a tattoo but still want to help the cause, people can donate pet food, toys, or supplies at any of the Dark Harbor Tattoo Society locations in Portland or South Portland.
